Crofton Garden Club Participates in Operation Christmas

Harriet Kiilehua, Shirley Townes, Jane McClanahan, Gillian Myers, Margaret Woda, Roy Myers and other garden club members helped fill holiday gift bags for deployed troops on Oct. 18.

Crofton Village Garden Club members joined Crofton Girl Scouts and Long & Foster REALTORS in Crofton last week to prepare holiday gift bags for deployed U.S. troops.

The 5000+ items that were donated, counted, and sorted by volunteers from the three groups included socks, toiletries, snacks, candy canes, toys or gag gifts, tissues, safety pins, dental care kits, and unique gift items.

Monetary donations by garden club members purchased 180 dental care kits, and several members bagged toiletries for each gift bag. This task was completed so efficiently that they moved on to filling 90 of the bags before noon, topping each with red or green tissue, a candy cane and red bow.

The remaining bags were filled by Long & Foster agents, and shipped to Operation Give in Utah for their annual Operation Christmas Stocking drive.  Operation Give, in turn, ships tons of Christmas stockings and holiday gift bags overseas to deployed U.S. troops.

Many thanks to all the members of Crofton Village Garden Club who participated in Operation Christmas by donating gift items, money, and time.
