Crofton Village Garden Club Schedules Flower Show

Crofton Village Garden Club is pleased to announce “At The Library” – a Standard Flower Show, scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 1-4 p.m.  With a name like that, you probably won’t be surprised to learn the show will be held at Crofton Public Library, 1681 Riedel Road in Crofton, MD.

A “Standard Flower Show” is conducted in accordance with standards established by National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC).  The purposes of a Standard Flower Show, according to NGC, are to educate club members and the viewing public, to stimulate interest in horticulture and floral design, to provide an outlet for creative expression, and to convey to the community the objectives of NGC.

According to Marie Harrison, in her post on Dave’s Blog, some of the requirements for a standard flower show are:

  • It must be planned and staged by an NGC member club or group of clubs.
  • Fresh plant material must be emphasized throughout the show.
  • The schedule must be written and mechanically reproduced with specific wording that includes all essential details of the show.
  • The show must include a Horticulture Division and a Design Division.
  • The show must be judged by a panel of NGC-approved judges.
  • The NGC Standard System of Awarding.
